What links between Conflict Mediation, Citizen Diplomacy and Impact Projects for International Geneva?

After having explored last year the growing capacity of citizens under the approach of “being oneself a mediator,” this year we take the reflection further by opening a new field: that of Citizen Diplomacy.

Alongside conflict mediators from around the world, the workshop will address the following questions: beyond Impact Diplomacy carried out by professional diplomats, what forms of direct diplomacy can be undertaken by citizens themselves? What expressions of self-determination by individuals and peoples could be heard and relayed by States?

These new forms of approach have the potential to extend and reinforce impact actions across the many fields of International Geneva, whether in solidarity, health, humanitarian work, climate, migration, or even responsible AI.

We will thus have the opportunity to outline the contours of a complementary Citizen Diplomacy, solution-oriented, giving a new and structured voice to grassroots actors while engaging in dialogue with institutions and governments, and capable of strongly relaying the most ambitious projects.

Discussions among stakeholders in this meeting will take place both in the form of a Round Table with the speakers and in breakout group debates involving the Assembly audience.
